For example, if you want to execute a test every 15 minutes, you need to create 4 schedules &#8211; At 0th Minute, 15th Minute, 30th Minute, and 45th Minute 



This will run at the 0th, 15th, 30th and 45th minute of every hour.

Self Healing Test Automation | Tests that do Not Require Maintenance

Selenium team has added Selenium 4.0 Alpha to <a href="https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.seleniumhq.selenium/selenium-java">mvnrepository</a> two weeks back(24th April) and has created a buzz in the Automation QA Community. 



The QA fraternity has been eagerly waiting for one or more features proposed in this release. The most significant of them would be the <a href="https://www.w3.org/TR/webdriver1/">W3C Standardization</a>. It would make the Framework much more stable and reduce some of the compatibility issues across different Web Browsers. 



Another beginner-friendly change that is coming with this major release is updated Documentation.&nbsp;After version 2,&nbsp;Selenium Documentation had not been thoroughly updated. The updated documentation would help beginners, as well as the experienced, immensely. We also hope some of the drawbacks in the article&nbsp;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://testsigma.com/blog/selenium-automation-testing-pros-cons/" target="_blank">Pros and Cons of Selenium as an Automation Testing tool</a>&nbsp;will be handled by Selenium 4.

<h3 id="1-now-using-w3c-protocol-for-browser-driver-communications">1. Now using W3C Protocol for Browser-driver Communications</h3>



The earlier versions of Selenium used JSON wire protocol which required encoding and decoding of the API. Whereas, Selenium 4 will now use a standard W3C Protocol to communicate between the driver and the browser. The advantage is that W3C protocol doesn’t require encoding or decoding the API and the tests will be able to directly communicate with the Browser.



<h3 id="2-compliant-with-w3c-webdriver-specifications">2. Compliant with&nbsp;W3C WebDriver Specifications</h3>



Selenium 4 will be entirely compliant with W3C WebDriver standards and this will include the documentation as well. So, the updated documentation will cover detailed instructions for usage.



Also, The actions API has been revamped&nbsp;to conform with the WebDriver Spec.



<h3 id="3-removed-support-for-few-browsers">3. Removed support for few Browsers</h3>



The team will remove native support for&nbsp;Opera&nbsp;and&nbsp;PhantomJS&nbsp;going forward. Still, the users who need to test Opera can rely on Chrome since Opera is based on Chromium(which Chrome is forked from) and for PhantomJS users can use <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="The team will remove native support for&nbsp;Opera&nbsp;and&nbsp;PhantomJS. Still, the users who need to test Opera can relay on Chrome since Opera is based on Chromium and for PhantomJS users can use Chrome or Firefox in headless mode as shown in the example (opens in a new tab)" href="https://github.com/SeleniumHQ/selenium/blob/trunk/javascript/node/selenium-webdriver/example/headless.js" target="_blank">Chrome or Firefox in headless mode</a>.



<a href="https://testsigma.com/blog/selenium-standalone-server/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Selenium Server</a> now no longer includes HtmlUnit by default.<gwmw style="display:none;">

Alpha version of new Grid Server supports &#8220;standalone&#8221;, &#8220;hub&#8221;, &#8220;node&#8221;, and completely distributed usage. Also, this new Grid Server can output logs in single-line JSON format to the stdout.

Basic support for OpenTracing landed. Use the &#8211;ext flag to the new Grid Server to provide the classpath to an OpenTracing implementation.



Selenium 4 will introduce Basic support for using Docker containers with the new Grid Server. More information will be available once the official documentation is released.

While it&#8217;s great to see the improvements that are expected to be covered in Selenium 4, it would be a hassle for small and medium-sized teams to read through the API docs, analyze the changes, and rectify the tests broken by the updates due to the considerable changes.

The conditional statements in general, help take actions depending on whether a programmer-specified condition or criteria evaluates to true or false.&nbsp;



In Testing context, these Conditional statements provide control over Test execution, i.e the flow of test execution depending upon the conditional steps. To understand this, let&#8217;s write a sample test case.

Step 1 :&nbsp;We start with a simple&nbsp;Go to step.

Step 2 : Click on Add Next Step. When the new Test Step box appears, tick the checkbox “Add Conditional If”.



Now, select the expected outcome after the execution of Test Step from the drop-down menu(Passed, Failed, Aborted, Not Executed, Prerequisite Failed, Queued or Stopped).

Here we select “Passed”. Let&#8217;s move on to add a Test Step. I&#8217;m using the grammar, &#8220;Verify that the element swdLink displays text Software development&#8220;. Now click Create.

Here, &quot;swdLink&quot; indicates the ui identifier and &quot;Software development&quot; is the test data. &#8220;Software development&#8221; is the test data(are input values that we give; say, in an input form like date, name like john, etc).

Step 3 : Hover over the right end of the If&nbsp;Test Step to reveal new options:



Else, Else-If along with the Add before and Add after buttons.



Click on the Add After icon.

Let us add another Test Step, “Click on the link with text Software development” and click on Create.



As you might have already understood, Software development here is nothing but test data.

Step 4 :&nbsp;Again hover over the&nbsp;If step and click on the&nbsp;Else option.

Now click on the Add After button to add another Test Step to the Else condition.



 



 Step 5 :&nbsp;Hover over the Else step and Click on the Add After button to add the test step.

Add the step “ Click on the Refresh button in the browser”.

The If step group will be executed as the condition is satisfied. But, the&nbsp;Else group steps won&#8217;t be executed and will be shown as Failed in the result.



 



<h2 id="example-2-if-else-if-and-else">Example 2: If, Else-If, and Else</h2>



To do this, we will use the previous example with some modifications. Change the test data from Software development to Hardware development in the If group so that the If condition fails.

Hover over If step and click on Else-If and add the step “Verify that the element software development link displays text hardware development”. 



Add the step “Click on the link with text Software development” &nbsp;inside the else-if group.

Run results of this case will show that the&nbsp;Else-If group passed.



Both&nbsp;If and Else group conditions fail and the test steps inside these will not be executed.

Conditional statements in Testsigma (if, else-if, and else)

(opens in a new tab)" href="https://testsigma.com/automated-data-driven-testing" target="_blank">Data driven testing</a> is a method that is usually employed when an application is tested using a large number of test data.



What is test data? Test Data are input values(valid and invalid username/password combinations or phone number, etc). Here, test data is read from Excel, JSON, properties file or even from plain text files.



Selenium can be used for <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data-driven_testing" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Data-Driven Testing</a> but it needs additional APIs to read the test data from text files, and a loop statement in the code which in turn increases the complexity. 



But Data-Driven testing in Testsigma is as simple as it can get. You just upload the test data file and start using anywhere on your tests. Let&#8217;s see how.

<h2 id="running-a-data-driven-test-in-testsigma">Running a Data-Driven test in Testsigma</h2>



Pre-requisites: We need a valid test data profile which is mandatory for Data-Driven testing. 



There are two simple methods to do this:



1. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;By Creating a test data profile manually



2. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;By Importing a test data profile 







<h3 id="method-1-creating-a-test-data-profile-manually">Method 1:&nbsp;Creating a Test Data profile manually</h3>







Here is how Testsigma’s dashboard looks like.

Click on &#8216;Test Development&#8217; and click on the Create icon at the top right corner. Enter the test data inputs, provide a name for the test data profile and click Create.

<h3 id="method-2-importing-a-test-data-profile">Method 2: Importing a Test Data profile</h3>



To import the test data profile that you created, click on the Import icon in the test data page, provide a name for the test data profile and upload your file.



There is a sample test data file in the link provided with the format to be used. Now, click Create.

If we have the test data profile ready by either one of these 2 methods, we can create a Data-Driven test case in Testsigma.



 Click on the plus icon at the left panel.



Now click on the +Test Case(Create a new Test Case) button, enter the name of your Test Case and click on “Take me to a detailed form” link which shows a few more options.



Now, select the profile that you created, Click the data-driven toggle button and hit Create.

Now that we have imported, let’s see how we can add this to our test steps: 



<ul class="list_style_disc"><li>In your Testsigma account, type in the URL of the page(Orange HRM login page which is open source</li>&nbsp;<li>Let’s enter something in the Username field of the page using the grammar, “Enter test data in the ui identifier field”. You may check out all the grammar used in Testsigma in the NLP Grammar link at the left pane of your Testsigma account or use the Help icon to see the keywords you can use and the examples that would help you with a few examples.



<ul class="list_style_disc"><li>Now let’s see how we can use the testdata without hardcoding it to the test step.</li></ul>



Delete the text testdata and select the @|Parameter| from the suggestions. Instead, choose the testdata name that comes up on the suggestions. See representation.

This is just an example for illustrating data-driven testing. There are a whole lot of possible ways you can put to use the test data without necessarily hard coding it to your test steps.
